Federal officials will try to determine how several boxes of anthrax and hepatitis B vaccine ended up lying in the road in Copperas Cove.
Police received a report Monday morning that the boxes had been found in the street in the 400 block of Robertson Avenue.
Responding officers found vials of hepatitis B vaccine and broken vials of anthrax vaccine, police said.
Hazardous materials teams from the Copperas Cove and Killeen Fire Departments were called in as a precaution while police contacted state and federal agencies.
Firefighters washed down the street where the vaccines were found and the vials were turned over to the Department of Homeland Security, which will try to figure out where the vaccines came from and how they ended up in the street.
The vaccines, which are commonly administered, did not pose a public health threat.
